About this Opportunity:

iVenture is looking for IT Career Practicum students to join our Jacksonville, Florida office.  The practicum opportunity is designed to be an 18 week program over a semester (with the potential for a repeat semester) and will consist of candidates being exposed to a broad range of IT responsibilities to include: building and deployment of computer systems, new VMware installs, new firewall setups, and managing critical system alerts for our clients.

The assignments will be a mix of performing daily experience tasks while being mentored/shadowed by an IT professional.  Candidates will work approximately 20 hours per week during the 18 week program.

What You’ll Be Doing:

Rotations will

Respond to and address maintenance alerts which includes drive space, management agents not responding, service failures, and antivirus information and updates

Assist with builds of new PCs

Assist with new firewall set-ups

Assist with VMware installs

Support Microsoft Windows desktop technologies

Responsible for detailed documentation

Communicate the need for escalation promptly

Assist with other small projects as needed

Qualifications:

Academic:

  • Be a student in good standing at UNF with a GPA of at least 3.0 at the time of application to the program
  • Be enrolled full-time as at least a Senior with at least 12 semester hours in the semester immediately prior to the Practicum Experience (e.g. fall if applying for the spring Practicum and the previous spring if applying for the fall Practicum)
  • Be a declared major in Computing and Information Sciences or Information Technology
  • Be selected by a committee chosen by the Dean of the College of Computing, Engineering and Construction
  • *Students awarded this Practicum Experience must also agree to:
  • Comply with all University regulations, rules, codes of conduct governing students on campus
  • Consent to release grades to the Division of University Development and Alumni Engagement for the purpose of reporting to the donor (Regency Centers)
  • Complete the required reports to the Director of the School of Computing regarding the Practicum Experience
  • Enroll in 3-credits of Practicum Experience during the semester involved in the Practicum.

Technical and Soft Skills:

  • Knowledge of Microsoft Office suites
  • Able to effectively use computing devices and peripherals including PCs, Laptops, Mobile Devices, and Printers
  • Basic software installation and Microsoft Windows workstation updates
  • Basic understanding of networking topologies and technologies
  • Basic understanding of computer security measures and authentication methods
  • Conceptual understanding of different data center technologies such as: servers, switches, routers, storage, and the Microsoft Active Directory Service
  • Excellent customer service skills
  • Strong communication skills, both written and verbal
  • Ability to learn quickly in a fast-paced environment
